The new year is full of opportunity and we invite you to play a role at Theatre Bristol! Our 2023 season of auditions, performances, and registrations brings us some Rodgers and Hammerstein, A.A. Milne, Mark Twain, Shakespeare meets Dr. Seuss, Anne Frank, and Dickens for favorites like Oklahoma!, The Diary of Anne Frank, A Christmas Carol, Winnie-the-Pooh, and more!

- If you are new to theatre, we have classes and workshops, and if you’re newer to the world, Saturday morning programming and summer camp.
- If you are looking for purpose, we build skills and create together, and partner to improve lives.

Our 2023 season marks 58 years of shows, with as many as eight full-scale productions, as well as classes and workshops with the Catherine DeCaterina School of Theatre Arts and summer camp.
- We open the season with Mark Twain’s The Diaries of Adam and Eve coming this February and directed by Chris McVey – a great night out with some dinner on the town, perhaps with a date! Auditions are 6:30 pm on January 12 and 10:30 am on January 14. Shows are February 9 through 14, so come with your Valentine or just come for a laugh, with details and additional show dates at www.theatrebristol.org. - In March, with personal narrative giving testament to the human spirit, we present the drama The Diary of Anne Frank directed by Camille Gray, coming March 3 – 19. Tickets are on sale now. Auditions are January 8 at 2:30 pm and January 9 at 6:30 pm, at 506 State Street. Schools can contact info@theatrebristol.org for daytime show dates.
- We have postponed our planned spring production of To Kill a Mockingbird, but we are now accepting audition forms at http://www.theatrebristol.org/audition. We will announce performance dates as soon as the production is cast.
- Our annual partnership with River’s Way is coming to the stage and is guaranteed to sell out as it always does. Written and directed by Dottie Havlik, we present Real Heroes, a meaningful comedy for all ages with three shows on March 25th and 26th. Reserve tickets at http://www.theatrebristol.org.
- For those young and young at heart an “adventure is going to happen” as we bring Winnie-the-Pooh to the stage April 22 to 30, on Saturday and Sunday matinee performances, and Saturday afternoon performances. Directed by Cindi Brooks, auditions are February 18 and 19, with details at www.theatrebristol.org/audition. Reserve tickets online or purchase them at the door. - The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet, comes in July, and well, the title says it all, so this show will be a ball! Directed by Kate Thomas Denson, auditions are April 24 and 25 at 6:30 pm and performances are weekends June 16 to 25. Tickets on sale at www.theatrebristol.org.
- In June, Ohhhhhhklahoma auuuuuditions run the 2nd through 4th, with available roles at www.theatrebristol.org/audition. As “big as all outdoors,” Oklahoma! comes to The Paramount Center for the Arts in the fall running weekends September 22 to October 1 under the direction of Kenn Naegele. - We will also be presenting our annual Youth Service Board production July 17-19.
- PLAYtime in the ARTspace performances for littles and those who love them resumes on February 4 and continues Saturdays at 9:00 am at the Theatre Bristol ARTspace, 506 State Street, Bristol, TN 37620. Make friends and enjoy Bristol Bagel coffee and bagels and Parenting Sweet resources!
- The StART of Adventure summer camp runs July 17 – 21, 2023, and registration opens in February. Camp sells out quickly so be sure to register early.
- Keeping Christmas in our heart, A Christmas Carol directed by Glenn Patterson comes to the stage in November and December. Auditions will be held August 25 – 27, details at www.theatrebristol.org/audition. Schools can contact info@theatrebristol.org for daytime show dates.
- We’ll also be telling our own story with The Mockingbird Sings, a musical telling of the music influences that led to the Bristol Sessions. Key roles benefit from being able to sing and play an instrument, but there are many roles available. The character list is posted online and audition forms are being accepted now at www.theatrebristol.org/audition.
- Registration is now open for The School of the Theatre Arts spring semester dramatics classes: Creative Dramatics for ages 5-7 begins March 6 and runs Mondays 5:30-6:30 PM and is $160 for the semester. Dramatics 1 for ages 8-10 begins March 7 and runs Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 PM and is $160 for the semester. Dramatics 2 for ages 11-13 begins March 8 and runs Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 PM and is $160 for the semester. Registration is now open at https://theatrebristol.org/tbarts/
- Upcoming workshops include Musical Theatre Dance, Singing Parts in Musical Theatre, an Acting Series, Stage Management, and more. Audition workshops will be held for Winnie-the-Pooh, Seussification, Oklahoma!, A Christmas Carol, and other productions.
If being in the spotlight is not your interest, but backstage on the production team or crew is, we are forming teams and crews now. Please contact info@theatrebristol.org with your interest and experience. This invitation includes those interested in orchestra, costuming, set design and construction, lighting, sound, stage management, props, publicity, and many other roles. All roles are volunteer and no experience is necessary.

Founded in 1965 by Cathy DeCaterina, Theatre Bristol is a community theatre serving all ages that also has the distinction as the oldest continually running children’s theatre in northeast Tennessee. Located on historic State Street in Bristol, it also serves southwest Virginia. Its Main Stage season consists of drama, comedy, and musical productions that take place in the ARTspace, a multi-purpose, black box theatre which seats up to 120, and at the Paramount Center for the Arts. Theatre Bristol is a volunteer-operated community organization and we invite you to get involved.
