Theatre Bristol Announces “Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical”

Nationally-toured musical based on the best-selling novel opens June 14, running two weekends

Bristol, TN, June 2013 – Theatre Bristol presents the nationally-toured music based on the best-selling novel “Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical” June 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23. Based on the best-selling novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, “Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical” is a musical rendition of the life of ‘kindred spirits’ Anne, Diana, Matthew, Marilla, Rachel, and Gilbert, and the community on Prince Edward Island.

This much-loved story of family and friendship is directed by Theatre Bristol veteran Chris McVey. “This is a touching show with talented performers, and I am confident that it is one everyone will enjoy. It’s good to have Theatre Bristol bringing this classic story to the stage for our community to enjoy.”

The show features the debut of Annie Osborne as title character Anne Shirley, and her adventures with friend Diana Barry, played by Theatre Bristol veteran Rachel Locke. Jacob Alvis portrays Gilbert Blythe, Angie Hyche is Marilla Cuthbert, Steve Baskett is Matthew, and Dottie Havlik is Mrs. Rachel Lynde. A cast of 21 acts, sings, and dances to “Green Gables,” “Such a Lovely Day in Avonlea,” “Puffy Sleeves”, and “Perfectly Happy,” including Randa Blackley, Justin Robinson, Jonathan Cooper, Jessica Hutchison, Todd Freeman, Terri McCall, Kelly Locke, Sunshine Hughes, Makenna Arnold, Kimberly Ireson, Abi Bell, Zach McCown, Daniel Freeman, Caleb Hale, Alayna Walker, and Gabriella Garrido.

The production is supported by producers Mike Musick and Steve Baskett, and crew, including stage manager Sarah McCall, musical director D.P. McGregor, choreographer, Lindsay Marshall, assistant choreographer Carson Musick, costume designer Camille Gray, makeup and hair Savannah Stone and Morgan Kutt, set designer, Jonathan Cooper, lighting and tech T.J. Voorhees, and photographer Clay Blankenbeckler.

Show performances are Fridays June 14 and 21 at 8:00 pm; Saturdays June 15 and 22 at 8:00 pm; and Sundays June 16 and 23 at 2:00 pm, with tickets available at the door. General admission tickets are $12 and student and senior (65+) tickets are $10.

“Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical” features book, music & lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, and is presented through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Co.

Founded in 1965, Theatre Bristol is the oldest continually running children’s theatre in northeast Tennessee. Its Main Stage season consists of up to five productions. Some of our performances take place in the ARTspace, a multi-purpose, black box theatre which seats up to 100. Theatre Bristol’s 2013 season is dedicated to founder Cathy DeCaterina and includes A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical, Snow White, and A Miracle on 34th Street.
