Theatre Bristol Appreciates Your Support
Dear Friends of Theatre Bristol,
Opening night reflects so much for a community theatre, especially one that hinges on volunteer talent and strength, like Theatre Bristol.
It reflects the kind of community we are, the shared stories that make us laugh and cry. The positive opportunities we offer to energetic or very shy children help them gain self-discipline and confidence. The connection it offers to teens, using art to wrestle with change and providing opportunities to experiment and be recognized. The camaraderie adults experience means a chance to stay young and play, or provide mentoring.
It reflects the priorities of a community. Priorities that value story, art, positive opportunities, quality entertainment, culture and interest, joy, and challenges overcome. It acknowledges the contribution Theatre Bristol makes to a dynamic downtown economy and a regional arts scene.
It reflects the personal journeys of the actors and crew, each with their own stories of theatre and its meaning to them. An audition on a lark for a chance to hang with friends becomes a leading role. Many years of acting becomes a chance to direct. An eye for helping people shine means new technical skills at the light board. A return to stage after years of career or raising family means rediscovering possibilities.
With your help, Theatre Bristol has enjoyed more than 57 years of opening nights. This past year, audiences were delighted with Lessons from Shakespeare with River’s Way, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Tartuffe, Pinocchio, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It is with your support this 56th year that Theatre Bristol will continue to be an asset to the Bristol community and the work it fosters in each individual.
In 2022, we present a season of shows and events that involve young and old, first time and veteran, amateur and professional, to entertain all ages. We are excited to present Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night with our Youth Service Board and partner again with River’s Way to stage another original production, this time, Real Heroes. We present The Sound of Music at the Paramount Center for the Arts, To Kill a Mockingbird at the ARTspace, then Elf The Musical at the Paramount Center for the Arts for the holidays, as well as summer camp in July. It’s an ambitious season and we need your support.
We also hope to make important improvements to the building and secure our monthly expenses with contributions, grants and advertising in the coming year.
Like many non-profit community theatres, Theatre Bristol runs on a very slim budget, keeping costs low and reinvesting resources right back into the next production or children’s programming. We have sustained our commitment to offer affordable ticket prices to high quality shows.
Sometimes it helps to know what supports all the talent–its your contributions that provide support for licensing royalties and show material rentals. The cost to produce a show varies from $2,000.00 – $40,000.00. The monthly expenses to keep the lights on, the water running, and our building cool or warm average about $2,000, and on top of that annual operating costs like annual insurance and state registration expenses. We also have major upkeep projects for our more than 100-year-old buildings.
We ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation for 2022 by December 31, 2022 to Theatre Bristol.
No donation is too small and every donation will help us continue to provide opportunities for children and adults to perform in or enjoy seeing quality, family entertainment.
We thank the Tennessee Arts Commission and United Company Foundation for setting the pace and kicking off our appeal. Join them and others who care about local, community arts and opportunities.
Every gift helps.
